Inventory Status Calculation

Out, Low, Healthy, and Excess

Updated over 3 weeks ago

In Brahmin Solutions, every inventory item is assigned an Inventory Status to help you quickly understand stock health and replenishment needs.

Statuses are calculated automatically using:

  • On Hand inventory

  • Allocated inventory

  • Expected inventory

  • Minimum and Maximum stock thresholds

Core Formula: Missing / Excess

The system calculates a value called Missing/Excess:

Missing/Excess = On Hand – Allocated + Expected

This represents your true operational supply after reservations and inbound inventory are considered.

Default Values

If any of the following values are missing, Brahmin Solutions treats them as zero:

  • Missing/Excess = 0

  • Min = 0

  • Max = 0

Status Calculation Rules (Single Warehouse)

πŸ”΄ Out

An item is Out when:

Missing/Excess < 0

Demand exceeds available and expected supply.

🟠 Low

An item is Low when:

Missing/Excess < Min

You have stock, but you are below your safety threshold.

🟒 Healthy

An item is Healthy when it is within the target operating range.

If Max is set (> 0):

Min ≀ Missing/Excess ≀ Max

If Max is not set:

Min ≀ Missing/Excess

Healthy indicates the item is stocked appropriately.

πŸ”΅ Excess

An item is Excess when:

If Max > 0 then Missing/Excess > Max

You are holding more inventory than ideal, tying up cash unnecessarily.

Multi-Warehouse Global Status Rules

When multiple warehouses are enabled, Brahmin Solutions calculates status per warehouse and assigns a combined Global Status.

Global = Out

If any warehouse is Out:

  • Global status becomes Out

Global = Low

If none are Out, but any warehouse is Low:

  • Global status becomes Low

Global = Healthy

If all warehouses are Healthy:

  • Global status becomes Healthy

Global = Excess

Global becomes Excess when:

  • All warehouses are Excess
    or

  • All are Healthy except one is Excess

Why Inventory Status Matters

Inventory Status helps teams:

  • Prevent stockouts

  • Identify low safety stock

  • Avoid excess purchasing

  • Maintain healthy working capital

  • Improve replenishment planning
