Buy, Sell, Make, and Kit in Brahmin Solutions

Updated this week

In Brahmin Solutions, every inventory item is controlled by four key flags:

  • Buy

  • Sell

  • Make

  • Kit

These flags determine how the item behaves across purchasing, sales, and manufacturing.

Buy Flag

Enable Buy when an item is purchased from suppliers.

Common examples:

  • Raw materials

  • Packaging materials

  • Products purchased for resale

Items with Buy enabled can be added directly to Purchase Orders.

Sell Flag

Enable Sell when an item is sold to customers.

Items must have Sell enabled to appear on Sales Orders.

Common examples:

  • Finished goods

  • Subassemblies sold externally

  • Kits and bundles

Make Flag

Enable Make when an item is produced internally through manufacturing.

Items with Make enabled can be built using:

  • Bills of Materials (BOMs)

  • Manufacturing Orders

Common examples:

  • Finished manufactured products

  • Subassemblies or WIP items

Kit Flag

Enable Kit when an item is a bundle of multiple component variants.

Kits:

  • Are sold as one item

  • Reduce inventory from component items

  • Are not produced through manufacturing orders

Common examples:

  • Starter packs

  • Bundled product sets

  • Promotional kits

Best Practice

If you're unsure which flags to enable:

  • Start with whether the item is bought, sold, made, or bundled

  • Keep products broad and let variants carry operational detail
